SECOMAK AIR CANNONS DRY DIESEL ENGINES FOR PERKINS
SEC02-03
Secomak’s Air Cannon Powerdry system,
plus hot air drying assistance, has been employed at Perkins
Engines in Shrewsbury
for use on the diesel engine production line.
Positioned directly downstream of the in-line wash system,
and immediately upstream of final paint touch up and assembly,
the system is being used for drying various models of diesel
engine after the final wash removes most of the grease and
debris build-up on each engine block.
A gantry arrangement of air cannons traverses
the engine block, ‘pressure
blowing’ any excess moisture from its surface. Additional
hot air was introduced to run alongside the air cannons, which
emit ambient temperature air, to speed up the drying process.
An oven was considered as an alternative drying technique
but the cost of running the oven as well as the dwell time
led to the decision to use air cannons.
The purchase of a Secomak system was prompted by the fact
that Secomak offered the cannons, fans and heaters as one complete
package, leading to easy installation and system continuity.
