CAN
DRYING - Secomak supplies Powerstrip Drying System to Carlsberg
PROBABLY
THE BEST AIR KNIVES IN THE WORLD
Two
Powerstrip complete can drying systems are now in use at
Carlsberg’s
Northampton site.
Cans of beers
are dried at very high speed. The Powerstrips are being used
after the pasteurising process, and before packing.
Mild detergent based lubricants used to ease the passage
of cans through the conveyor system can become concentrated
on can tops due to evaporation of water. If moisture form the
pasteurising process is left on the can, cans can then become
subject to stress corrosion at the final packaging stage.
To counter the problem, can manufacturers,
beverage producers and major supermarkets have jointly agreed
a new standard of
dryness that ensures that the cans are in optimum condition.
Secomak’s Powerstrip systems are the first to be able
to perform this function at the high speeds required.
High speed lines
require special consideration with regard to the handling of
the cans through the drying machine, and
positioning of the airknives in relation to the can in order
to meet the very tight dryness specifications. The Powerstrip
system has special features to over come these common can
drying problems.
During commissioning, the full range of can sizes was processed,
and the optimum machine settings obtained. Digital readouts
ensure fast settings for each can size processed.
The performance of the Powerstrip is regularly checked against
the dryness specifications to ensure conformity. |
